In the more than fifteen years since its publication, the classic The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People has become an international phenomenon with over fifteen million copies sold. Tens of millions of people in business, government, schools, and families, and, most important, as individuals have dramatically improved their lives and organizations by applying the principles of Stephen R. Covey's classic book. The world, though, is a vastly changed place. The challenges and complexity we all face in our relationships, families, professional lives, and communities are of an entirely new order of magnitude.Being effective as individuals and organizations is no longer merely an option -- survival in today's world requires it. But in order to thrive, innovate, excel, and lead in what Covey calls the new Knowledge Worker Age, we must build on and move beyond effectiveness.
The call of this new era in human history is for greatness; it's for fulfillment, passionate execution, and significant contribution.Accessing the higher levels of human genius and motivation in today's new reality requires a sea change in thinking: a new mind-set, a new skill-set, a new tool-set -- in short, a whole new habit. The crucial challenge of our world today is this: to find our voice and inspire others to find theirs. It is what Covey calls the 8th Habit. So many people feel frustrated, discouraged, unappreciated, and undervalued -- with little or no sense of voice or unique contribution.
The 8th Habit is the answer to the soul's yearning for greatness, the organization's imperative for significance and superior results, and humanity's search for its "voice." Profound, compelling, and stunningly timely, this groundbreaking new book of next-level thinking gives a clear way to finally tap the limitless value-creation promise of the Knowledge Worker Age.Covey's new book will transform the way we think about ourselves and our purpose in life, about our organizations, and about humankind. Just as The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People helped us focus on effectiveness, The 8th Habit shows us the way to greatness.

Some Summer Reading

Here are some books I would recommend that you read over the summer holidays. They are in pdf form which means you have to open them using Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can --- if you want --- print them out. They are very inspirational:
1. The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change was a groundbreaker when it was first publishedin 1990, and it continues to be a business bestseller with more than 10 million copies sold. Stephen Covey, an internationallyrespected leadership authority, realizes that true success encompasses a balance of personal and professional effectiveness,so this book is a manual for performing better in both arenas. His anecdotes are as frequently from family situations as frombusiness challenges.
Before you can adopt the seven habits, you'll need to accomplish what Covey calls a "paradigm shift"--a change in perceptionand interpretation of how the world works. Covey takes you through this change, which affects how you perceive and actregarding productivity, time management, positive thinking, developing your "proactive muscles" (acting with initiative ratherthan reacting), and much more.

THE SBA LIBRARY OPENS ITS DOORS
How many times have I heard these comments from you . ."Sir, walang libro sa library!!!" . ."Sir, ang mahal ng libro!!!" . . "Sir wala kaming makuhang refrence" . (and the dreaded) "Sir, wala ako mabiling textbook !!!"
The last accreditation visit (where SMCL received an approval for their level 3 accreditation from PACUCOA), opened my eyes to the realization that you cannot really fight city hall. After so many years of arguing for the student's bankbook and the fact that real quality books are truly expensive, I have finally accepted the fact that PACUCOA will always require textbooks for each subject. My friend and colleague Dean Inigo sad it very succinctly . . "Theat is the price of education"
Textbooks will always be a requirement . . but how can one allow textbooks to be required when you know fully well that only about 20 percent of your class will have the money to procure them? (Indeed, even the cost of having the things xeroxed would be pretty prohibitive) . .
Enter the SBA Online Library.
The internet has a wealth of information and materials that can be be used as replacements for actual physical textbooks. I have been downloading a lot of them and they are indeed textbooks . but in electronic form. By exerting a small effort, teachers can actually locate a textbook online and send it (lock, stock , page and cover) to his students. He can even chop it up into bite-sized pieces (chapter by chapter) to save his students the printing and internet costs. VOILA!!! YOU HAVE A TEXTBOOK,
This blog is experimental . . . but I plan to keep it up in compliance with the PACUCOA recommendation of requiring textbooks for all subjects.
To the SBA Faculty and students. This is your library . . . I would appreciate comments and suggestions on how to make this more functional.
